Peta Omniciye Inc.
(Council Fires, Inc.)
We are a Lakota, Indigenous, Native-led 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to help guide the Oyate (Nation) towards self-sufficiency, self-sustainability and inherent sovereignty of the Oceti Sakowin Oyate. Rooted in the traditional values of our people, we are building a future where Indigenous communities thrive—culturally, economically, and spiritually. From restoring bison herds to building homes and returning to an Indigenous autonomous economy, we are revitalizing our way of life through Indigenous leadership and innovation.

Why the Black Hills Matter
— And Why We Need Your Help
For the Oceti Sakowin, the Black Hills (He Sapa) are the heart of our world — the center of creation, where our ceremonies, stories, and star knowledge live. Every peak, cave, and meadow is sacred. Yet these lands were taken in violation of the Fort Laramie Treaties of 1851 and 1868, which guaranteed our “absolute and undisturbed use and occupation.” Our ancestors never sold nor surrendered the Black Hills. Even the U.S. Supreme Court admitted in 1980 that the seizure was illegal.
Despite these promises, the Black Hills have been subjected to intensive mining and extraction — gold, metals, quarries, and legacy operations — which have scarred sacred sites, polluted waters, and chipped away at the integrity of the land itself. Sacred places remain occupied, desecrated, and commercialized.
This is why Peta Omniciye, Inc. was created:
-
To educate the world about the sacredness of He Sapa.
-
To defend our treaty rights and hold the U.S. accountable to its promises.
-
To preserve ceremonies, language, and cultural ways for future generations.

Tiwahe
Peta Omniciye, Inc. exists to rebuild Indigenous life from the foundation of our inherent sovereignty. We create opportunities that make our communities self-sustaining in today’s economy—while honoring the wisdom and ways of our ancestors. Our work includes treaty rights, economic development, education, healthcare, housing, environmental protection, and legal advocacy. We believe in a future where our people not only survive—but lead the way toward sustainable and culturally grounded living.
Wichahpi Woyake Teachings
Our ancestors taught us about the Wichahpi (Stars), guiding us to our roots. At conception, our spirit journeyed from the Big Dipper's black hole, where Tohwin gently nudged us through, and we traveled to the Keya or Agleska constellations, determining our path as female or male. Upon arrival in our tiwahe, our Ena nurtured us, and our Ate provided protection. Our life journey began with purpose, and it's our responsibility to pass on the Lakota way to future generations, honoring our ancestors' teachings and the Lakota language. The star quilts, crafted by our Lakota winyan, remind us of our celestial origins and the importance of living in harmony with all living beings, inspiring us to create a brighter future for generations to come.
